Obituary for Helen Irene Monitto (L'Italien)


Helen Irene L’Italien Monitto, 84, of 787 Williams Street, Pittsfield, died Thursday, September 13, 2018, at her home.

Born in Leominster, Massachusetts, on September 1, 1934, a daughter of Roland L’Italien, Sr., and Dorothy Melanson L’Italien, she attended schools in Leominster and graduated from Saxon Trade School in Leominster, and moved to Pittsfield as a teenager 68 years ago.

Mrs. Monitto was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with family on their birthdays and the holidays.

Mrs. Monitto was a communicant of St. Charles Church and had been a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and taking care of her yard, sewing and crocheting afghans, shopping, and having breakfast at Daddy O’s.

Her husband, Vincent F. Monitto, Sr., whom she married on June 11, 1955, in the former Notre Dame Church, and to whom she was married 62 years and 9 months, died December 13, 2017.

Mrs. Monitto is survived by two sons, Samuel V. Monitto of New Jersey, Vincent F. Monitto, Jr. of Pittsfield, and her beloved grandson, Vincent F. Monitto, III., of Pittsfield; four sisters, Barbara (Pola) Hansen of Lenox, Joan McMillan of California, Sylvia Lovich of Florida, and Debra Heath of Pittsfield; two brothers, Richard L’Italien of Connecticut and Donald L’Italien of Pittsfield; two aunts, Enis Pullaro of Lenox and Beatrice Grimm of Florida.

She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Roland (Sonny) L’Italien, Jr., Robert L’Italien, and Dennis L’Italien.

The family of Mrs. Monitto expresses special thanks to HospiceCare in The Berkshires and to her caregiver, Yvette Morton of Porchlight Home Care Services, as well as to her sister, Barbara, for all the love and support shown to her.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Helen Irene L’Italien Monitto will be private with burial to be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
