Obituary for Louise M "Nan" Ludbrook (Bigelow)

Louise M "Nan" Ludbrook (Bigelow)
Louise Mary “Nan” Bigelow Ludbrook, 91, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Pittsfield on January 21, 1927, daughter of Leo F. Bigelow and Louise Grandshaw Bigelow, she was a graduate of Pittsfield Public Schools. She retired from Eaton Paper Company at age 60 after 40 years of service.

Mrs. Ludbrook was a communicant of St. Charles Church. She was a member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leeds.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting hats for newborn babies at Berkshire Medical Center, cooking, and gardening.

Nan and her husband, Robert, were married in Notre Dame Church on September 10, 1949. He died December 28, 2003.

Nan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family was the center of her life. She was kind and generous to her family, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed her garden and flowers. Baking and cooking were her passion. Her famous pizza, pies, and chocolate chip cookies were known to all.

The love of her life were her grandchildren, Johnny and Renee. She was so proud of them. She never missed a game or school event. She enjoyed their many talks and adventures. Then, her finest treasures became her great grandchildren, Marcus, Cole, Chloe, Rylee, and Chase. She had a very special place in her heart for them, and they carried her through her remaining days. She bragged about their sports, school accomplishments, and how she loved they were “each unique and special in their own way”. It was always a “special day” when they came to visit.

Nan is leaving her daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law “her real son”, John Lander, and her grandchildren, John Lander (Jamie) and Renee Lander Aitken (Shaun), and many nieces and nephews, and her “second daughter” Jean Bolio. She also leaves a sister, Veronica Martin and brother Daniel Bigelow.

A very special thanks to all her caregivers and HospiceCare in The Berkshires for the excellent care they provided.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Robert; her brothers, Louis, Conrad, Arthur, and Richard; and two sisters, Celinda Mendel and Margaret Pettibone.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Louise M. Ludbrook will be held Thursday, July 26, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Wood, Administrator. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME.
