Obituary for George F Yannone

George F. Yannone, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, died peacefully in his sleep on March 20, 2018. He was born on November 4, 1932, the son of George and Irene Yannone. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in June of 1950 and spent four years in the Navy. He married the former Connie Dillon on August 18, 1956 at St. Mary's Church and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. After moving to the Elm Street area, he and Connie were members of Sacred Heart Church for 54 years. George worked at the Berkshire Eagle as a Pressman for 20 years.
While in High School, George excelled in basketball and baseball. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing with his dad. He passed this passion on to his son Joe. Together they enjoyed fishing and hunting along with their Beagles, Jake and Bonnie. When George's children Lisa and Joe were growing up some the happiest times were spent watching Little League teams that son Joe played on and in later years, teams that Joe coached.
George and Connie enjoyed traveling. They made three trips to Italy, as well as trips to Ireland, Las Vegas and New Orleans. Over the years they often reminisced about how enjoyable these trips were.
He is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Lisa Welch of New Hampshire; son Joseph and his wife Becky; five grandchildren, Dillon and Jesse Welch, Joseph and his wife Laurie, Mark and Emily Yannone; and two great-grandchildren, William and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother Frank and his wife Ann and their son Michael Yannone.
The Yannone family would like to thank the nurses and the staff of the Alzheimer's unit at Hillcrest Commons for the tender, loving care they provided for George over the past six years. This care was very comforting and the Hillcrest staff became a second family to George's wife Connie.
