Obituary for Thomas E. Unsworth

Thomas E. Unsworth, 62, of Dalton, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born Feb 23, 1953 in Providence, RI to the late Margaret A. (Kane) and Fred J. Unsworth. He graduated in 1971 from LaSalle Academy and in 1976 from Northeastern University. Tom began his career with General Dynamics (formerly General Electric) in 1974 as a co-op student while attending Northeastern University. After graduating in 1976 with an electrical engineering degree Tom joined the Field Engineering department and traveled across the United States and the United Kingdom as a Field Engineer supporting the Strategic Systems Program. Tom returned to Pittsfield in 1984 where he continued to support fleet operations. He recently celebrated 40 years with the company. Tom will be remembered by his coworkers for his dedication and commitment to the Strategic Systems Program and his willingness to help others. In 1976 he married the love of his life Bernadette Adele Walger. Together for 38 years, they traveled, dined, gambled and enjoyed each other's company, creating countless happy memories. They lived on the ocean in Portsmouth, NH for 2 more honeymoon years before being transferred to Scotland, and later settled in Dalton where they raised their daughter, Susan Robinson (Kevin) of Pittsfield. He also leaves his sisters, Peggy Hebert (Steve) of Marshfield, MA, Jean Audino (Louis) of Chepachet, RI., Betty Siegel (Don) of N. Providence, RI, Barbara Carlton (Brad) of Foster, RI., his grandchildren, twins Emmeline Rose Robinson and Sebastian Thomas Robinson and several nieces and nephews.
He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox & New England Patriots, loved gardening and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He liked to relax with a nice cold beer on the deck on a hot summer day after working in the yard, listening to James Taylor, Enya and other favorites. He also had a passion for genealogy and learning the history of his family. He also enjoyed playing poker with his poker buddies: "Tom will forever be one of 9 knights of the round table. The past few decades of poker playing will provide the 7 surviving members a lifetime of fond memories. Most assuredly will be his quick wit and awful sense of humor that made you laugh till you cried. - Cheers to Tom and Bernie from all of the Knights and God Bless."
