Obituary for Donald W. Olds

Donald W. Olds, 55, of Pittsfield passed away on Thursday at home after suffering from apparent heart failure. A longtime Pittsfield resident, he was born on November 1, 1961 in Pittsfield, the son of Sandra McBride Olds of Pittsfield and the late Walter B. Olds. He had also resided in Washington, MA for several years. Don was educated in Pittsfield schools and graduated from Taconic High School. At the time of his passing he was employed at Star Base Technologies as a machinist where he had worked for the past fourteen years. He had also worked at Beloit Fiber Systems from 1995- 1999 and at Marland Mold prior to that. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, and swimming at the Dalton CRA. He will also be remembered for his wonderful boisterous laugh as Don just loved to laugh. He leaves his mother; Sandra McBride Olds of Pittsfield. Two sisters; Christine A. Cross and her husband Mark of Pittsfield and Jean M. Turrell and her husband Jary of Pittsfield. He also leaves three nieces; Brianna Gendron, Kristen Turrell, and Caitlyn Cross as well as his nephew; Michael Cross and a great nephew; Lukas Gendron. He also leaves his good friend Jay Porter of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Donald W. Olds of Pittsfield who passed away on February 9, 2017 will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Steve Buchauer, pastor of Morningside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Don may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
