Obituary for Lawrence B "Larry" Wells

Lawrence B. “Larry” Wells, 80, of 490 Frost Road, Washington, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Baystate Medical Center.

Born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, on February 24, 1938, the son of Kenneth J. and Thelma Leonard Wells, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.

Mr. Wells was the owner-operator of the former Stacy’s Sub & Beef on North Street, Pittsfield. He was part owner of Washington Machine Shop, and was up until 2008, the gardener at Blantyre.

He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time on his lawn tractor in his blueberry patch. He also enjoyed watching NBA games, especially the Celtics, and was an avid Patriots fan. He also enjoyed Atlantic City and casinos.

Mr. Wells is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Gloria J. Phelps.

He is also survived by a son, Larry K. Wells, of Washington; two daughters, Stacy Graves with whom he lived, and Peggy Wells of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Patty Burke of the state of Florida.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Skippy and Bob Wells.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Lawrence B. “Larry” Wells will be held Saturday, December 15, at 10:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in PITTSFIELD with Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor of St. Joseph Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dialysis Group of Western Massachusetts in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
