Obituary for Martha Lorraine Nelligan (Gaylord)

Martha Lorraine Nelligan (Gaylord)
Martha Lorraine (Gaylord) Nelligan died peacefully at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox surrounded by her loving family on Friday July 27, 2018.

Born in Pittsfield, September 3, 1942, she was the daughter of Ralph F. and Maryanna Cecile (LeBlanc) Gaylord. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in 1960. She then married her late husband John J. Nelligan on May 28, 1966 and they began their family. She was a proud communicant of the former Notre Dame Church. In her earlier years she was a homemaker, she enjoyed travelling with family, reading mysteries, and had a love for her cats. After raising her children, she enjoyed her work with Hancock Shaker Village. Her proudest accomplishment and greatest joy was being Meme’ to her grandchildren.

She leaves behind her children: Karen Gavin and her husband Bob of Pittsfield, and Kevin Nelligan and his wife Shannon of Ada, Oklahoma; her four grandsons: Cody Gavin and his fiancee Maggie Barry, Chase Gavin, Matthew and Dylan Ellis. She also leaves her loving sister and best friend: Maryanna Johnson of Houston, Delaware, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center and HospiceCare in the Berkshires for their compassionate care of Martha.

Though she left us earlier than we could have imagined, her memory will live on in our hearts and through our stories that we will share with our families forever.
