Frank Joseph  Procopio
Frank Joseph Procopio, 96, of Pittsfield, died Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Rumford, Maine, on January 15, 1922, the son of Dominic and Mary Verano Procopio, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he competed on the track team.

A World War II Veteran, Mr. Procopio served with the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a tech sergeant and crew chief on the B24 Liberator. They ran 30 missions for the 513th Bombardment Squadron. He was the last surviving member of his crew.

When he returned from the service he worked as a self-employed mechanic at Procopio Brothers. In 1965 he took over the family business with his sons. In 1996, his son, Hank established Westend Automotive and he worked with him until this year.

Mr. Procopio’s beloved wife, the former Ruth Daugherty, died September 17, 2005.

Mr. Procopio is survived by a daughter, Diane Procopio Deming, of South Windsor, Conn.; a son, Hank D. (wife Judy) Procopio of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mary Smith of West Bridgewater, MA, and Jan Clark of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Frank J. Procopio, Jr.; four brothers, Alphonse “Al” Procopio, Salvatore “Tut” Procopio, Joseph “Pep” Procopio, and Anthony “Tony” Procopio; and a son-in-law, Thomas L. Deming. He was also predeceased by sisters, Yolanda Potter, Jane Fowler and Ann Barzowskas.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service with military honors for Frank J. Procopio will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 12:30pm at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with Rev. Quentin Chin, Chaplain at Soldier On, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00am-12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Home Care in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
