Obituary for Eleonore Secaras

Eleonore Marie “Mémère” Secaras (née Fusco), age 92, a strong matriarch to the family, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, May 24, 2018 in her son and daughter-in-law’s home.

Eleonore was born in Leominster, MA to Peter and Rose (née Thibaudeau) Fusco. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Fitchburg State in Massachusetts. Throughout her life, Eleonore, known as “Mémère” to many in her family, was very “hands-on” as she created numerous oil-paintings and drawings that will be forever cherished, built wooden cabinets from scratch, loved to write, crocheted and sewed many of her own garments especially various kaftans. She was also dedicated to nutrition and health, and even decided to formally learn how to ice skate at 50 years old but above all else loved her family and her Catholic faith. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Mountain Church in Long Valley, NJ for nearly 30 years.

Eleonore was the beloved mother of James (Constance), Paula (Reid) Smith and Steven (Ellen). She was the dear sister of John “Paul” Fusco, former sister-in-law of Patricia Fusco, sister-in-law of Mary (née Secaras) and Menelaus “Manny” Amandos. She was the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Eleonore are many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Eleonore was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Peter “PJ” Secaras (April 2, 2018) and her brothers Peter Anthony and Joseph “Eddie” Fusco.

Eleonore will be lovingly and forever remembered by all her family.

Private family services will be held at a later time.
