Charles Henry Smith, 78, of 298 Benedict Road, Pittsfield, passed away March 8, 2018 at Berkshire Medical Center.

He was born March 6, 1940 in Pittsfield, the son of the late Frank and Bessie May Oviette Smith. He was educated in Pittsfield Schools and then served in the United States Navy.

Mr. Smith was an Inspector for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He worked for General Electric Naval Ordnance and continued to work doing odd jobs. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially loved spending time with his family.

He was a member of the Dalton American Legion and the Dalton VFW.

Charles leaves behind two sons: Frank W. Smith and Charles L. Smith both of Pittsfield; five daughters: Shari L. Smith of Pittsfield, Deanna M. Wojtaszek of Cheshire, Triplets: Susan R. Mangosan, Melissa A. Smith, and his “Little Girl” Denise M. Negri, all of Pittsfield; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, as well as his former wife: Diane Smith of Lee, MA. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be TUESDAY MARCH 13, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Funeral services will be held WEDNESDAY MARCH 14, 2018 at 11:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Farnes officiating, burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Lee with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Hospice Care in The Berkshires, in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME.
