Obituary for Thomas T "Tom" Mierzejewski

Thomas T. Mierzejewski, age 73, died on February 20, 2018. He was surrounded by his sons Thomas and Michael and daughter Terry Chertien. Tom was being treated for an aggressive leukemia at Brigham-Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.

During his childhood, Tommy hit a grand slam in little league and earned many awards for his archery skills. He was athletic and competitive.

In his adult working life and following service in the Air Force, he was mainly a journeyman carpenter and had built two of his own homes.

As a retiree, Tom enjoyed fishing, golf, back-yard birding and gardening. He also especially enjoyed walking in the State Forest with his beloved dog, Mindy, whom he leaves behind.

Ever the Red Sox fan and always up for political discussions, Tom had an engaging manner and was witty, humorous and at times irascible, “He did it his way”.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward W. and Bertha Wilk Menesky. He leaves behind a brother, David (Anne), several cousins, nieces and nephews. Also many friends and neighbors, especially Wes Sagendorph and George Nardin. He also leaves behind an ex-wife, Cheryl Rennie Mierzejewski.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA. The family thanks Brigham Women’s Doctors and Staff for the compassionate care extended to Tom.
