Obituary for Charlene Joan Engwer

Charlene Joan Engwer, age 79, formerly of Becket, passed away on August 29, 2017 in the peacefulness of sleep. She was born in Pittsfield on May 12, 1938, the daughter of the late Charles and Viola Williams Lubold. She was educated in Dalton schools and had a deep love of music and singing.
Mrs. Engwer is survived by her seven children: Joseph Engwer, Faye Engwer, Andrew Engwer (his wife Christine), Sarah Loftus (her husband Christopher), Marilyn Hinkson (her husband Paul), Elizabeth Chapman (her husband Stephen), and Andrea Engwer, fifteen grandchildren: Allison, Amber, Aubrey, Bryant, Christian, Eric, Jeffrey, Joseph, Joshua, Matthew, Mitchell, Paul, Rachele, Katherine, and Taylor, fifteen great-grandchildren; her sister: Judith Perkins; and her brother: Rockwell Viner. She was pre-deceased by her husband: William Engwer; her son: Gary Engwer; and her granddaughter: Courtney Hinkson, brothers John Viner, Charles Lubold and sisters Marilyn, Beverly and Glenda.
Charlene resided in Craneville Place, Dalton for the final year of her life. She was given the task of caring for the birds there and she cherished the birds and the responsibility of their care. She thought of many of the staff as friends, especially the activities staff who organized Bingo and will be missed by all but especially by Peggy - her roommate and partner in crime. They shared many special times and treats together and their bond was truly beautiful!
On Friday September 1st, The Reverend Henry Pascual performed a very special service at Charlene's church The First Congregational Church of Dalton - a Grandmother Celebration, where some of her grandchildren and great grand children were able to gather and celebrate the life and love of their (great)grandmother and express what she meant to them. Her oldest child, Joseph spoke of how pleased she would have been and how much she loved the young ones and her youngest great grandson Weston was in attendance. In tribute to her love of sweets, desert was a top priority after the celebration.

A graveside service will be held in the Becket Center Cemetery on Friday September 8th at 11am with an informal gathering to follow at 1pm at 463B Crane Avenue Pittsfield, home of her youngest child Andrea Engwer.
