Obituary for George Warren O’Brien

George Warren O’Brien
George Warren O’Brien, 86, of 118 Birch Grove Drive, Pittsfield, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on May 19, 1931, the son of Ernest W. and Georgianna Beaudin O’Brien, he attended Richmond public schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
With the help of his Uncle Paul, Mr. O’Brien enlisted with the National Guard at the age of 15 years serving two years. He then served with the United States Navy aboard the USSA
Hassayampa A-0145.
Mr. O’Brien was the proprietor of O’Brien’s Barber Shop, which was located on Second Street, for forty years. His barber shop was not just a destination for a haircut, but a social hub
with OB as the host. With his warm heart and catalogue of jokes, it was an oasis.
He was also employed by General Electric Company for over thirty years.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. O’Brien enjoyed hunting and fishing and shared his love and
respect for both the outdoors and life itself with his children and grandchildren.
His wife of forty two years, the former Ann Carol O’Donnell, whom he married January 24, 1953 in St. Joseph Church, pre-deceased him.
Mr. O’Brien is survived by his children, Joan O’Brien of Pittsfield, Lisabeth and William O’Brien-Garvey of Pittsfield, Timothy O’Brien of Moorehead, Ky., and Kathleen and Matthew Baldwin of Mantua, N.J., and Sarah and Joseph Swartz of Amherst; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
