Obituary for Sophie Mary Murphy ( (Brushkevich))

Sophie Mary (Brushkevich) Murphy (96), born on October 16, 1920, died on July 14, 2017 in Pittsfield Mass. The beloved wife of Francis J. Murphy, (deceased) and the daughter of Sophia and Vincent Brushkevich, she lived her whole life in Pittsfield, except for a few years during World War II when her husband was serving in the European Theater. She and her husband raised four children, Jane Rogers (Ralph) of Pittsfield, the Rev. Susan Murphy (Terri) of Sanford Maine, Peter Murphy (Kate) of Pittsfield and Kevin Murphy (Gail) of South Glens Falls New York. She leaves ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Sophie was employed as a school secretary and worked in Pittsfield at the Jr. High level and in the Superintendent’s office for over 22 years. She loved to garden, was an avid reader, a competitive card player, a wonderful homemaker, and a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, dancing in the kitchen, bird watching, traveling all over the US and parts of Europe and camping in Maine. She instilled in her children the values of hard work, generosity, commitment to family and a keen interest in all things political. Her family is grateful for the care given to her at Berkshire Place for close to three years.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Sophie Mary Murphy will be held Tuesday, July 18, at 9:30 a.m., at
DERY FUNERAL HOME in PITTSFIELD with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred
Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph RETIREMENT FUND in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
