John M. Gates, 56, of 192 Lakeway Drive, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Tufts Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield, on July 14, 1960 the son of the late Gordon and Marjorie Gates, he attended Taconic High School.
John enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country.
John was an auto mechanic for many years here in Pittsfield.
He enjoyed restoring old trucks he called “Rat Rods” and he also enjoyed hunting. He loved spending time with his family, and especially loved taking his only grandson “Noah” fishing.
John is survived by his two daughters; Katie L. Gates of Pittsfield and Kelsey J. Gates of Pittsfield; his four granddaughters; Haven A. Gates, Savannah E. Sumner and Ryleigh (Babies) Dunn all of Pittsfield; his sisters; Ester Knappe of Pittsfield and Geraldine Gates of Pittsfield; his former wife; Deborah E. Gates and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters; Lorraine Robitaille, Theresa Fosty and Joanne Obert; and his brothers; Gordon Gates and Christopher Gates.


FUNERAL NOTICE:
At John’s request, there will be no funeral services. The family wishes to invite friends to a Celebration of John’s Life on Saturday May 20, 2017 beginning at 2 p.m. at his home at 192 Lakeway Drive, in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart
Center for Children--Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 BRADFORD ST. Pittsfield which is handling arrangements.
