Obituary for Michael J. Quigley

Michael James Quigley passed away on May 22nd after a brief illness at the Kimball Farms Rehabilitation Center in Lenox.
He was born in Syracuse, NY on Feb. 5, 1928, the son of John J. and Anne (Quinn) Quigley. A graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School and LeMoyne College, Mr. Quigley attended Syracuse University School of Law before serving in the Army's Counter-Intelligence Corps during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he served as a manufacturer's representative for Columbia Mills, Syracuse, NY, covering NY and New England.
In 1961, Mr. Quigley founded and was president of Colt Realty in Pittsfield. In conjunction with the Real Estate Business, he founded Osceola Realty Trust and developed Osceola Notch, a 150 acre tract of land in Lenox and Richmond. During that time, he donated 45 acres of land on Lenox Mountain to the Berkshire County Land Trust and Conservation Fund. In 1978 he was named Chief Assessor for the City of Pittsfield and he held that position until 1987.
In 1953 he was married to the love of his life, Adelene Louise Cowhig, daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph T. Cowhig of Main Street in Lenox. He is survived by his wife and his 3 daughters and their families. Mary-Bligh and Mark Morrison of Menands, NY and their children Mark Augustine, John Quigley and Anne Bligh; Adelene and Roland Perkins of Wayland, MA and their children Mason Mary, Michael Phillips, Roland Keith and Grace Adelene; Anne and Kevin Egan of Westborough MA and their children Kevin James, John Michael, and Adelene Bligh.
He is also survived by his brother, James Michael Quigley, and his wife, Jeanne, of Bradenton, FL and their six children Jim jr, Marnie, Anne, Buffy, Julie, Laurie and their spouses and his sister-in-law Annemarie Cowhig Farrell and her nine children Joseph, Mary, Anne, Kate, Francis, Thomas, John, Margaret and Jane and their spouses. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joseph W. Farrell, III.
Mr. Quigley served as Chairman of the budget committee of United Community Services and was a lector at St. Mark's Church. He was an avid golfer and tennis player and a member of the Country Club of Pittsfield for 47 years.

Funeral Notice: Funeral Services for Mr. Quigley will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 10:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Ann Church in Lenox celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Calling hours will be held on Memorial Day, Monday May 26th from 4 to 6 pm at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monastery of the Visitation – Mont Deux Coeurs, Tyringham, MA in care of the funeral home.
