Obituary for Harold "Bob" Yon

Harold Robert "Bob" Yon, 88, of 84 Mohegan Street, Pittsfield, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Springside of Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on September 23, 1926, the son of Harold and Catherine Leonard Yon, he was educated in Pittsfield schools. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Yon enlisted with the United States Army on December 18, 1944, served overseas as a Private First Class from June 1945 to September 1946, and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1946. Mr. Yon was employed by General Electric Company where he was an assembler in the Power Transformer Department for 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Charles Church, and a member of the General Electric Athletic Association and the Dalton American Legion. He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed playing golf and cooking. Mr. Yon's wife, the former Madeline Enright, whom he married August 28, 1944, died October 25, 2011. He is survived by two sons, Terrance A. Yon and his wife, Debra, of Pittsfield, Gerald R. Yon and his wife, Judy, of Pittsfield; two daughters, Sandra K. Kearns and her husband, Tim, of Pittsfield, and Sharron J. Pires and her husband, Doug, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Yon and his spouse, Dan Pytko, of Pittsfield; a sister, Kathleen Yon, of Pittsfield; seven grand- children, Mitchell Pires, Melissa DiMassimo, Timothy Yon, James Yon, Brian Yon, Kimberly Yon, and Stacy Yon. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Charles Yon, and a sister, Madeline Oslund.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Harold R. Yon will be held Monday, January 19, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
